Education Program Allowance

Expenditure Guidelines

The Education Program Allowance is to be applied towards the voluntary contribution for Years 7-10.  For Year 11 and 12 students the money will be applied towards their charges.  Where a student transfers to another school in Western Australia, any refund due will be forwarded to the new school and not to the parents.

If the school receives the Clothing Allowance amount it can be applied towards uniforms, the voluntary contributions, charges, voluntary approved requests or personal items.  Where a student transfers to another school in Western Australia, any unused funds can be arranged to be forwarded to the new school in consultation with the parent/guardian.

Eligibility

The Secondary Assistance Scheme is available to parents of students up to and including the year in which they turn 18 if they are a holder of one of the prescribed cards listed below:

  • Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card; or
  • Centrelink Health Care Card (Family card only – not for a specific child for medical purposes); or
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card.  Cards that are not eligible are Totally and Permanent Incapacitated and Gold Cards.

Though a student may be in receipt of a Centrelink Youth Allowance, if a parent does not have an eligible card the application will not be successful.  A student can apply on their own behalf only if they have been classified by Centrelink as an independent student.  They will have their own Health Care Card and must produce documentation from Centrelink identifying them as living independently.

Parents of students in receipt of ABSTUDY through Centrelink are only eligible for the $79 ABSTUDY Supplement Allowance.

Allocation of funds

The Secondary Assistance Scheme includes the $115 Clothing Allowance and $235 Educational Program Allowance.

The Education Program Allowance is provided per eligible student and paid directly to the school at which the student is enrolled.

The Clothing Allowance is provided per eligible student and is made directly to the school or parent as nominated by the applicant.

The ABSTUDY Supplement Allowance is paid to the school.
